Today, Saturday, March 26, is the sixteenth day of Lent. Lent is the period of time during which we can prepare ourselves for the Easter experience.
Assignment 16
Every child born into the world is created that it might grow, unfold, and become captain of its own soul. We are all free-born. God did not bring forth anything out of Himself that was incapable of fulfilling the purpose for which it came.
The limitations of man’s believing have made him temporarily a seeming captive to experiences and conditions that are unreal and impermanent. They are the experiences by which man becomes aware of his true God-self. Like a little boy becomes aware of the principle in mathematics by working problems.
The problems have come to pass – the Principle remains forever. We are only separated from our good by the “width of a thought,” not by a condition or outer barrier.
Man was not created to be stunted, bound, or inhibited, but to be the expression of a Perfect Idea. Perfection is unfoldment; perfection is a traveling.
The infant is not the man, nor is the man yet the spiritual expression in its fullness. The “thorns and thistles” of the ground are the experiences or assignments of life, by which we find the power within us that is the answer to all our questionings.
Man without the assignments of life would be man without a purpose. We should never avoid an opportunity to encounter life. It is only in letting things happen to us that we find happiness.
Man’s purpose is to feel the power within, to respond to its urgings, and carry out its dictates; to be consciously aware at all times, in all places, that it is there. We are not automatons or puppets with God or the world pulling the strings. We are the God power expressing as a human form.
We are not here to be overcome by our assignments, but to overcome! We are not to say to the inner voice of our heart, “I cannot do this or that.” We are to listen for inner directions and receive life and all its gifts with the spontaneity of a child.
The purpose of life is that we know for ourselves. How can we know unless we feel directly and perceive directly? Life is God, you are God in expression – do not fear life!
