Today, Friday, April 8, is the twenty-seventh day of Lent. Lent is the period of time during which we can prepare ourselves for the Easter experience.

Assignment 27

Many times on bonds, coupons, tickets and guarantees, it will read, “Not good if detached.” We can look around us and see how many things are not good if detached. The most efficient labor saving electrical appliances are useless without the power for which they were created. A whole electrical unit of house or city is no good if detached from the power center. Seeds are no good apart from the earth; branches cannot bear fruit if they are separated from the tree.

There is a Divine Principle in the life of every one of us that is the law and order of our being. If we are detached from it we do not function properly and we cannot fulfill our pose. The most unhappy person in the world is one who is not fulfilling the Divine plan, which is the inner movement of the soul. If we do not bring forth the yearnings within us we become frustrated, neurotic and sick or bitter and unhappy.

We detach ourselves from life because we cannot see the way with our human eyes. This is a foolish reason, for we cannot see what is invisible, and it is only revealed to us as we move into it with faith and trust. The law and principle does not occupy space, it is not seen with the human eye but only felt in the mind and heart. Like the principle of music or mathematics it does not enter into error or discord.

No person can produce a single permanent or satisfying condition out of harmony with this power. This inner power of trust, faith, and enthusiasm is the inspiration that carries everything from the realm of mind to completion in life.

We cannot do satisfying work in life separated from this powerhouse and all are helpless as babes without it. It is the flow of the universe with us and we cannot struggle against the infinite. We know when the power is with us. Great men and women always work with it, but it is there in the midst of every soul to be used.

The closer to the inner power we stay, the greater our power and the more effortless our way become. When we work with this power no matter how busy we may be we are content. Content means “to hold together.” A contented person is not detached! Let’s get in tune, in rhythm with the power that created us and creates through us. Draw apart from the constant whir of the outer, find out what you are feeling inside and you will touch again the source of life within.
