I’d like to share with you fifteen turning points in Truth that were written by that great Truth teacher, minister, and author, Dr. Emmet Fox. But before sharing them with you, I’d like to tell you one of the great stories about him and his special connection with the Unity movement.

In the early years of Unity after the Fillmores had started training and ordaining ministers, Emmet Fox wanted to become a Unity minister. But at that time, one of the requirements for acceptance was that a person must have completed a correspondence course in “Lessons in Truth” which was available at that time.

Emmet Fox, already a well-known and respected figure in the New Thought movement, felt it was unnecessary for him to meet that requirement. Unity felt otherwise, and consequently Emmet Fox never became a Unity minister.

Since that time, Unity has been very circumspect in its desire not to miss another Emmet Fox, one of the great teachers of Truth principles.

Emmet Fox was ordained by Dr. Nona Brooks as Divine Science minister, and in 1931 was appointed as minister of the First Church of Divine Science in New York City. His books, Sermon on the Mount and Power Through Constructive Thinking, have each achieved a circulation of over half a million and over the years millions of people have been touched by his books and pamphlets. May your life be touched in a special way by the following words from the writings of Emmet Fox as you take them into your heart.

So, from the pen of Emmet Fox . . . fifteen turning points in Truth for you:

I Am Really in Truth . . .

If I always look for the best in each person, situation and thing.

If I resolutely turn my back on the past, good or bad, and live only in the present and future.

If I forgive everybody without exception, no matter what he or she may have done, and if I then forgive MYSELF wholeheartedly.

If I regard my job as sacred and do my day’s work to the best of my ability (whether I like it or not).

If I take every means to demonstrate a healthy body and harmonious surroundings for myself.

If I endeavor to make my life of as much service to others as possible, without interfering or fussing.

If I take every opportunity wisely to spread the knowledge of Truth to others.

If I rigidly refrain from personal criticism and neither speak nor listen to gossip.

If I devote at least a quarter of an hour a day to prayer and meditation.

If I read at least seven verses of the Bible every day.

If I specifically claim spiritual understanding of myself every day.

If I train myself to give the first thought on waking to God.

If I speak the Word for the whole world every day, say at noon.

If I PRACTICE the Golden Rule of Jesus instead of merely admiring it. He said, “Whatsoever you would that men should do to you, do you even so to them.” The important point about the Golden Rule is that I am to practice it whether the other person does so or not.

If, above all, I understand that whatever I see is but a picture which can be changed for the better by Scientific Prayer.

Some further quotes by Emmet Fox:

“It makes no difference how deeply seated may be the trouble, how hopeless the outlook, how muddled the tangle, how great the mistake. A sufficient realization of love will dissolve it all.”

“The art of life is t to live in the present moment, and to make that moment as perfect as we can by the realization that we are the instruments and expressions of God Himself.”

“Every problem solved by prayer, every difficulty that you overcome by spiritual treatment, teaches you more about God and develops your spiritual nature faster than anything else could possibly do.”

“Prayer will bring any good thing into your life, and it will find its own ways and means to do so. Prayer is constantly bringing about the seemingly impossible, and there is not any conceivable problem that has not at some time been solved by prayer.”

“When negative thoughts come to you, do not fight them, just think of something positive.”
