Faith in God and the recourse to prayer are so powerful in the midst of unforseen circumstances and can make all the difference in the way we handle the situations before us. Regardless of how challenging circumstances may seem at first and although we may not see the way things will work out, with faith in God we can remain centered and know that they will.
You never know when your life is going to change in what seems like the blink of an eye.
A week ago last Friday my wife, Kathryn, and I were traveling up to Roanoke, VA, to stay with Kathryn’s sister and her husband and to be guest speakers at Unity Church of Roanoke Valley. We were only about two hours away and had stopped for lunch. After lunch Kathryn went to the restroom and I went to pay the check; one of the restaurant staff came rushing up to me to tell me that my wife had fallen in the handicap stall of the restroom and was calling out for me to help her. She had fallen and was lying on the floor of the stall, clutching her head which was bleeding profusely. A staff person called 911 and the paramedics came and took Kathryn to the emergency room of a local hospital.
We were in the emergency room all afternoon, then in the evening Kathryn was transferred to a room in the hospital. She had a tremendous hematoma on the left temple and her left eye had swollen closed and was black and blue. After all the test results were in, I was told she had some bleeding in the brain and there was some swelling in the brain which was causing her confusion and disorientation. She was not able to process communication properly either in or out.
After being in the hospital for a week, Kathryn was discharged last Friday and we were able to leave for home. Our daughter had flown in from California and she was able to drive us to the airport in Charlotte, NC, where Kathryn and I got a nonstop flight back to Tampa and our daughter drove our car back to our home in St. Petersburg, FL.
Even though we still have a long way to go, I know that our faith in God will see us through and that God’s healing power is mighty in the midst of Kathryn restoring her to health and wholeness. Also, I believe that our faith is what has drawn to us so many wonderful blessings and people to help us in numerous ways, from the doctors, nurses, and hospital staff, our family members and so many special friends who have and are supporting us with food, help, and prayers. Positive faith and prayer are the underpinnings of a confident and optimistic life well lived under all circumstances, no matter how challenging.
Thank you for joining us in prayer.
